Mitchell River Old Weir Wall

The Mitchell River Old Weir Wall, also known as the Glenaladale Weir, stands as a historic monument in Victoria's East Gippsland region. Constructed in 1881 at the junction of Stony Creek and the Mitchell River, the weir was part of an ambitious irrigation project that was ultimately abandoned due to structural failures and flooding. Today, visitors can explore the ruins via the Old Weir Site Lookout, a 300-meter return walk from an informal car park where Old Weir Track crosses a tributary of Stony Creek. The site offers panoramic views of the Mitchell River and the surrounding gorge, providing a glimpse into the area's rich history and natural beauty.
