The Vera Scarth-Johnson Wildflower Reserve, located off Coonarr Road near Bundaberg, Queensland, is a 93-hectare sanctuary renowned for its diverse and vibrant wildflowers. Established in 2006, the reserve honors the legacy of Vera Scarth-Johnson, a British-born Australian botanist and botanical illustrator who dedicated her life to the study and conservation of Australian flora. Visitors can explore well-defined walking tracks that meander through the reserve, offering opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The reserve is home to 137 identified plant species, with wildflowers in bloom throughout the year, but most spectacular in spring. The walking track splits near the entrance, with the western track leading to the salt flats of the Elliott River. Birdwatchers can look for honeyeaters feeding on nectar, with commonly seen species including the Brush Wattlebird, White Cheeked Honeyeater, and Noisy Friarbird. The reserve is a haven for nature enthusiasts, offering a peaceful retreat to connect with the unique flora and fauna of the region.
