
Moa Island, also known as Banks Island, is the largest island in the Torres Strait archipelago, situated approximately 40 kilometers north of Thursday Island. The island encompasses two communities: Kubin on the southwest coast and St Pauls on the east coast, connected by both bitumen and gravel roads. As of the 2021 census, Moa Island had a population of 432 residents. The island is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, with the Mualgal people being the traditional owners, referring to the island as 'Mua' or Moa. Moa Island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance, making it a distinctive destination in the Torres Strait region.
