Hornsdale Power Reserve, located approximately 15 km north of Jamestown in South Australia, is the world's first large-scale lithium-ion battery, providing essential grid-support services. Completed in November 2017 with an initial capacity of 100 MW/129 MWh, it expanded by 50 MW/64.5 MWh in September 2020, enhancing its role in stabilizing the electricity grid. The facility has saved South Australian consumers over $150 million in its first two years of operation. Co-located with the Hornsdale Wind Farm, it contributes to a balanced portfolio of wind, solar, and battery projects, aiming to achieve 10 GW by 2030.
