Cape Barren Island, located in Bass Strait off Tasmania's north-east coast, is the second-largest island in the Furneaux Group. With a population of approximately 66 residents, the island is known for its rich history and natural beauty. The community, primarily of Aboriginal descent, resides mainly in the settlement called The Corner on the north-west coast. The island's highest point is Mount Munro at 715 meters. Access to Cape Barren Island is facilitated by Airlines of Tasmania, which operates a twice-weekly scheduled air service from Launceston. Various charter flight operators also offer services from Tasmania and Victoria. From Flinders Island, the island is only a short boat trip away. Cape Barren Island is a popular destination for sea kayakers who attempt the crossing of Bass Strait from the Australian mainland at Wilsons Promontory, Victoria to the Tasmanian mainland.
