Perched on Low Island, approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Port Douglas, Low Isles Light is Queensland's first lighthouse, guiding ships since 1878. This 18-meter conical tower, constructed with a timber frame clad in galvanized iron, features porthole windows—a first for Queensland lighthouses. The lighthouse is automated and solar-powered, with a VRB-25 rotating beacon visible for 17 nautical miles. Visitors can explore the island's rich marine life, including over 150 species of hard corals and abundant sea turtles, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and relaxation.
