Nestled approximately six kilometers south of Tooma Reservoir in the Jagungal Wilderness Area, Wheelers Hut, also known as Old Toolong, is a classic horizontal wood slab structure built around 1900. Constructed by "Wingy" Wheeler, who was renowned for his remarkable skills despite having one arm, the hut features two rooms, two verandahs, and an iron roof. Inside, a stone hearth and iron chimney provide warmth, while an external toilet and an old iron bathtub add to its rustic charm. Adjacent to the hut are the Toolong Diggings, active from 1893 to 1904, where remnants of water races, mullock heaps, and mining equipment still remain. Despite sustaining some damage during the 2003 fires, the hut itself remained intact and continues to be a cherished spot for hikers and history enthusiasts alike.
