Ugar Island

Ugar Island, also known as Stephens Island, is a volcanic island in the eastern Torres Strait, Queensland, Australia. Approximately 70 residents live in this lush, fertile environment. Access is limited to helicopter or boat, as there is no airstrip. The community offers a range of facilities, including a helipad, council office, marine infrastructure, and both indoor and outdoor multipurpose courts. Accommodations are available at the council-operated guest house, featuring single and shared rooms with communal amenities. The island's primary language is Meriam Mìr, reflecting its rich cultural heritage.
