Metropolitan Colliery, located in Helensburgh, NSW, is an underground mine producing coking, PCI, and thermal coal. In 2023, it produced 2.2 million tons of coal and has 10 million tons of proven and probable reserves. The mine employs approximately 270 people and utilizes longwall mining methods. Coal is transported via rail to the Port Kembla Coal Terminal for domestic and international markets. Established in 1887, it is one of Australia's longest-running coal mining operations.
