Nestled on the shores of Lake Macquarie in Awabakal Country, the Landcare and Sustainable Living Centre, umali barai-ku ('To do for the earth'), is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to environmental education and community engagement. It serves as a hub for various environmental and sustainability groups, including one of Australia's largest Landcare volunteer networks. The centre features a modern 100m² community gathering space, Wi-Fi connectivity, meeting rooms, office spaces, a rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, a green wall, a covered outdoor learning area, a plant nursery, and a community garden. Designed with sustainable building practices, it incorporates recycled materials and energy-efficient features. The site is accessible via existing roads, public transport, and cycleways, with facilities including accessible parking and toilets. The centre offers a community meeting room and gathering space available for hire for events aligned with its mission to educate, engage, and inspire environmental sustainability.
