Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park

Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, spanning nearly 15,000 hectares, showcases stunning arid landscapes near Coober Pedy. The park is home to almost 60 native plant species, including acacias, mallee, and eremophilia, and supports diverse wildlife such as red kangaroos, euros, echidnas, various bird species, and the fat-tailed dunnart. This area holds cultural significance for the Antakirinja Matuntjara Yankunytjatjara people and is co-managed by the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, the District Council of Coober Pedy, and the Department for Environment and Water. Visitors can enjoy lookouts and must obtain a vehicle entry permit, with fees supporting conservation efforts.
