Holroyd River Station, located approximately 530 km northwest of Mareeba, is a vast cattle breeding operation covering 230,000 hectares. With a carrying capacity of 18,000 head, it is among the largest beef cattle stations in Queensland. The station encompasses the state's largest nature refuge, protecting nationally recognized wetlands and threatened species. In 2010, owner D'Arcy Thomas Byrnes received a top environmental commendation for initiatives like fencing off sensitive wetland areas and establishing off-stream watering points for livestock.
