Gwambegwine

Gwambegwine is a rural locality in Queensland's Shire of Banana, covering approximately 830.3 square kilometers. As of the 2021 census, it has a population of 27 residents. The area is characterized by its natural beauty, with Palm Tree Creek forming much of its eastern and southeastern boundaries, and the Murphy Range defining its southwestern and southern edges. The Fitzroy Developmental Road traverses the locality, connecting it to neighboring regions. Historically, the name "Gwambegwine" is believed to be a corruption of the Aboriginal word "guambeguine," meaning a waterhole in the bend of the stream. The locality is primarily used for grazing on native vegetation, offering a tranquil and picturesque environment.
