Eagle Downs Coal Mine, situated approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin, is a significant underground longwall mining operation. The mine is designed to produce around 4.5 million tonnes of coking coal annually during its initial decade of operation, with plans to increase production to 8 million tonnes per annum from 2020. The project boasts substantial coal reserves, estimated at 254 million tonnes, and is expected to have a mine life exceeding 45 years. The mine's infrastructure includes a coal handling and preparation plant capable of processing up to 1,200 tonnes of run-of-mine coal per hour. The project is a joint venture between South32 and Aquila Resources, with South32 assuming operatorship in 2018.
