Located within the historic Hay Railway Station, the Dunera Museum offers a poignant glimpse into Australia's World War II history. Between 1940 and 1946, over 6,000 German, Italian, and Japanese civilians were interned in three POW camps in Hay. Among them were the 'Dunera Boys,' 1,984 German Jews and other refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe, who arrived in Hay on 7th September 1940. The museum showcases exhibits, photographs, stories, and music that narrate the experiences of the internees, POWs, and local townsfolk. Open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, entry is $5. The museum is housed in air-conditioned railway carriages and is wheelchair accessible.
