Cleanaway's New Chum Solid Waste Landfill, located at 100 Chum Street, New Chum QLD 4303, has been closed since March 2022 due to severe flooding. The site is undergoing rehabilitation, including final capping and phytocapping with native vegetation to deter water infiltration. Landfill gas is managed through over 120 extraction wells connected to a flare. The New Chum Community Reference Group facilitates ongoing dialogue with local residents, providing updates and fostering community engagement. The site has been operational since 1998, accepting inert construction and demolition waste, as well as contaminated soils.
