The Peak Downs Mine, situated approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin, is a significant open-cut coking coal mine. Operated by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), it has been producing high-quality hard coking coal since 1972. The mine's Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) processes the extracted coal, preparing it for export. In 2022, the mine produced 37 million tonnes of coal, making it one of Australia's largest coal mines by recoverable reserves.
