Baden is a tranquil rural locality in Tasmania's Southern Midlands, approximately 21 kilometers southeast of Oatlands. Established in 1968, it was named in honor of Lord Baden-Powell, recognizing local men who served under him during the Boer War. The area is characterized by its serene landscapes, including the Coal River forming parts of its southern boundary. Baden's history includes the construction of a substantial stone police station in 1860, which became the center around which a township grew. By 1875, the 'Woodbanks Hotel' was completed under licensee Tom Dolan, and even included a skittles alley for the amusement of patrons. Regular stock sales were held in the adjoining yards. Today, Baden offers a peaceful retreat amidst Tasmania's natural beauty.
