With a population of 14 as of the 2021 census, it offers a tranquil environment amidst natural beauty. The Dorset River flows through the area, enhancing its picturesque landscape. Access is via Route C423 (Mathinna Plains Road) along the western boundary, with connections from Ringarooma through New River Road and Alberton Road. Established in 1976, Alberton is believed to have been named after Prince Albert, who visited Tasmania in the 1860s.
