Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, located 25 km north of Coober Pedy, spans nearly 15,000 hectares of striking arid landscapes. The park features colorful low hills, flat-topped mesas, and expansive gibber plains, collectively known as the "moon plain." Home to over 60 native plant species, including acacias, mallee, and eremophilia, it also shelters wildlife such as red kangaroos, euros, echidnas, various bird species, and the fat-tailed dunnart. The park is co-managed by the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, the District Council of Coober Pedy, and the Department for Environment and Water.
